Fahrenheit 451 pages 3-21

1) Ask a question that you have about what's going on in the novel. What do you find confusing?

I want to know what time period that this book is supposed to be set in. The author obviously ment it to be futuristic, but the book was written 50 years ago, so what does that mean?

1) Even before Montag and his wife Mildred talk to one another we know that they are alienated (distant) from one another. How does the author convey this?

The auther shows that they are alienated by first of all beggining the scene with them apart. It seems that they are regularly seperated, as he works, and she stays home. Second, she is not even awake when he comes home. This already starts the reader thinking they are not increadibly close. When they converse, his wife seems to be wrapped in some TV show, and does not fully focus on their conversation.
